Take A Look at Nature If you’re not experiencing the outdoors in Indonesia, you’re not doing it right.

Indonesia Spend as little time as possible in the city and as much time as possible outside! Of course, Indonesia has beaches and islands, but it also has a wide variety of other landscapes. There are many different kinds of lakes, mountains, jungles, enormous stones, dunes, and more from Sumatra to Papua.

Some of the incredibly beautiful blue lakes in Indonesia are multicolored. These include the smaller Danau Kaco, Labuan Cermin in Kalimantan, and Paisu Pok Lake in Banggai Sulawesi. 

Ascend The Craters

Indonesia has more volcanoes than any other country. In the world, Indonesia is home to 400 active volcanoes.

Hikers can access the majority of Indonesia’s volcanoes, and at some—like Mount Bromo in Java—you can even make it to the edge of the smoking crater!

Without a doubt, this is among the greatest activities in Indonesia! The most well-liked volcano in Bali for sunrise hikes is Mount Batur; for those seeking an even greater challenge, there’s Mount Agung.

Although they can also be quite difficult, Mount Rinjani in Lombok and Mount Dukono in Maluku are two more incredible volcano treks in Indonesia.

3.Take a Look at the Waterfalls

Indonesia If you go a little further, you may find beautiful waterfalls on almost every Indonesian island.

Although Sumatra and Java are home to many of Indonesia’s top waterfalls, smaller islands like Bali and Lombok also have some amazing waterfalls.

The UNESCO-designated Ciletuh Geopark in West Java is a fantastic location for waterfall chasing in Indonesia, with a ton of beautiful waterfalls. It’s reachable by driving a half day from Jakarta, and there are some nice places to stay near the waterfalls.

The Ponot Waterfall in North Sumatra, a massive three-step waterfall next to the well-known Lake Toba, is one of the tallest waterfalls in Indonesia.

4.Examine The Natural Resources

With over 20% of all animal species on Earth, Indonesia is home to a wide variety of endemic fauna that is unique to this country.

The largest lizards in the world can be seen on Komodo Island; bug-eyed tarsiers in Sulawesi’s Tangkoko Reserve; wild orangutans in Sumatra’s Bukit Lawang; and, of course, the world-famous macaques in Bali’s Ubud Monkey Forest.

Undoubtedly, one of the nicest things to do in Indonesia is to go wildlife viewing!

5.Explore the Lakes Volcanic

There are many volcanic lakes and hot springs in areas with volcanoes!

While some of the hot springs are great for bathing, others are great for taking pictures of. In East Java, not far from Bali, the Kawah Ijen crater is home to Indonesia’s most well-known volcanic lake.

Since limestone mountains can be found throughout most of Indonesia, there are also several amazing caves.

You may swim in a blue lake at the Rangko Cave in Flores or explore a sparkling limestone cave at Rammang Rammang in Sulawesi. These kinds of caverns, however, are still being used as ceremonial tombs in Tana Toraja.

7.Take a Snorkel and Dive Trip

The majority of the world’s fish and coral species may be found in the Coral Triangle, a tropical marine paradise that includes Indonesia.

Instead of Indonesia, the Maldives or Thailand come to mind when people think of beautiful beaches in Asia.

Indonesian beaches are amazing, but because many of the best ones are tucked away in isolated areas with difficult access, they are often overlooked. Positively, it increases the likelihood that you will have them to yourself!

Discover the most breathtaking black volcanic, pink, and white sand beaches, as well as world-class surfing locations and occasionally some extremely picturesque cliffs, rocks, and shipwrecks, by doing a little investigating.

9.Pay a Visit to a Lighthouse

Although you usually don’t think of Indonesia when you think about lighthouses, the country does boast a few lovely ones.

The Dutch lighthouse on Lengkuas Island in Belitung and the locally constructed lighthouse on Pulau Karang in Sumatra are two excellent examples.

10. Take a Walk Around the Terraces

Although the green rice terraces of Bali are well-known, beautiful crop terraces can be found on Java, Lombok, and numerous other islands.

Trek A Rainforest With widespread deforestation to make way for palm oil plantations, Indonesia is home to some of the most significant rainforests in the world. Tragically, many of these rainforests are in grave danger of disappearing.

One approach to increasing the financial incentive for communities to protect these areas is through rainforest tourism. The largest flowers in the world and enormous banyan trees can be seen, in addition to the incredible animals.

GunungGunung Leuser National Park in Sumatra is the most well-known location in Indonesia for rainforest trekking, while there are many other excellent locations spread out throughout Kalimantan (Borneo) and Sumatra.

12.Take a Trip to an Island

With over 17,000 islands, Indonesia is a great place to explore!

Komodo, Belitung, Bali, and Lombok are a few of our favorite spots for island hopping by boat, but you can do this pretty much anywhere in Indonesia.

You can even rent a comfortable liveaboard boat in Komodo or Raja Ampat and spend several days exploring the oceans to your heart’s content.

Walking on a sandbar at low tide is another interesting experience that you might have in island nations like Indonesia.

14.Become Lost in Heaven

Indonesia has what you’re looking for if you’ve ever imagined yourself alone on a secluded tropical island with a simple house and endless views of pure water!

Some of the tiny paradise islands close to Sumatra, Sulawesi, and Raja Ampat are the ideal locations to relax, switch off from WiFi, and adopt a Robinson Crusoe lifestyle. Take a look at the Banyak Islands or Mentawai, for instance.

We have stayed in homestays all around Indonesia without any concerns because the nation has one of the lowest rates of violent crime in the entire globe. The locals are incredibly kind and inviting.

16.Take A Look At The Cultures

Each province and island in Indonesia has its own distinct culture.

Top cultural locations in the nation include Wae Rebo, a lonely mountain town in Flores; Sumba; Tana Toraja, one of the world’s most peculiar cultures; and, of course, Bali.

Despite its popularity, Bali nevertheless offers a wealth of fascinating culture to experience. Since Bali gained popularity among tourists, the Balinese language, customs, language, and architecture have all remained largely unaltered.

17.Take A Look at the Landmarks

The largest Buddhist temple in the world, Borobudur Temple, and Prambanan Temple, which resembles Angkor Wat in Cambodia, are two of the must-see sites.

They’re both located in Yogyakarta city in central Java, and Borobudur is a favorite site for sunrises.

For examples of natural landmarks, visit the well-known Padar Island viewpoint in Komodo or the famous Kelingking Cliff on Bali.

A few iconic Balinese temples you should check out are Uluwatu, Tanah Lot, and Ulun Danu Beratan.

 The Yogyakarta region is home to the best Hindu temples in Java.

19.Savor Indonesian Cuisine

Try the chicken skewers called Satay Ayam, the spicy beef curry Rendang Sapi, the fried rice called Nasi Goreng, the omelet pancakes called Martabak, and the fried bananas known as Pisang Goreng for dessert.

Outside of Bali, you won’t find much Western food (OK, maybe the occasional KFC or Pizza Hut in major cities), but that’s good. You’ll likely fall in love with the inexpensive local cuisine!

20.Purchase Mementos

The best Indonesian destination for souvenir buying is Bali.

Together with the standard souvenirs like keychains and fridge magnets, there’s a great selection of lovely handcrafted items like paintings, wood carvings, and rattan bags. In addition, Bali is well-known for its lace, ceramics, silverworks, spices, and coffee beans.

Although we found some pretty nice shirts in the National Park, souvenir buying is not very common in other parts of Indonesia due to a lack of demand.

21.Put On The Local Clothes

You can take a picture at a palace or estate while dressed traditionally for a truly interesting and enjoyable photo opportunity. The people there are happy to see tourists enjoying their culture; therefore, it doesn’t bother them in the slightest.

Local Balinese couples frequently dress up in these elaborate costumes for events like pre-wedding portraits. If they so choose, visitors and other foreigners are also welcome to follow suit! Simply show respect, of course.

As my wife Intan is Balinese, we dressed simply for our pre-wedding ceremony in traditional Balinese attire. For a day, it was entertaining to appear as Bali’s king and queen.

 22. Take In The Dawn

There are many fantastic locations to watch sunrises strewn throughout the Indonesian islands. There are few things better than a tropical sunrise.

I experienced the wonder of cold morning air, birds chirping, fishermen wading out on the reef, and the distant Mount Agung volcano at my first sunrise in Indonesia at Sanur Beach in Bali.

There are numerous fantastic locations to witness sunsets in Indonesia, which coincide with every sunrise.

Choose an island, spend the night in the west, and relish the photo opportunities!

24.Locate the Secret Jewels

We haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of the Indonesian islands after years of exploration.

Start your search in Sumatra, Sulawesi, and Maluku if you’re seeking a clue. Several breathtakingly beautiful locations on each of these islands are currently unknown to outsiders.
